Whether it’s time for your annual mammogram or if your doctor sends you in for a diagnostic mammogram, our medical imaging center will perform a thorough scan. This exam is generally recommended annually for women over the age of 40, although it’s established that proactive screening even earlier might be recommended for certain women.

New 3D Breast Tomosynthesis The 3D mammogram is just like the 2D experience. The breast is compressed under a paddle as images are taken of the breast. Unlike 2D mammography, True Breast Tomosynthesis takes X-ray pictures of each breast from many angles that are not available in traditional mammography. The result is a clearer image that helps us look inside the breast layer by layer to find tumors better than standard 2D mammography alone, with fewer recalls.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Breast imaging procedures are typically painless, although patients may experience slight discomfort or experience pressure on the breast from the compression, which may be uncomfortable if the breasts are sensitive.

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

There are usually no special preparations needed for breast imaging procedures, but for mammograms the doctor will ask you to bring the results of prior mammograms with you, if possible.

General breast imaging exams are minimally invasive and carry little to no risk of complications. They are safe for most patients and are performed on an outpatient basis in less than an hour. The images produced by these exams are extremely valuable in diagnosing breast cancer in its earliest stages and enabling more effective treatment.
